SYRACUSE, N.Y.-Emmett Kenney hit
a 39-yard field goal as time expired
and Stanford beat Syracuse
26-24 on Friday night, giving
the Cardinals their first
Atlantic Coast Conference win.
“I had the best clipper, hold
and lane blocker in the country,
so I felt very confident when
I arrived,” Kenny said. They
worked all night and helped
me with my work this evening. When
I saw the ship it was like a dream come true.
Kyle McCord’s 13-yard strike
to Jackson Meeks gave Syracuse
(2-1, 1-1 ACC) a 24-23 lead
with 3:13 left, but Ashton Daniels
pushed the Cardinal (2-1, 1-0) ahead ). Go
onto the field with the goal of winning
points. Eric Iomanor kept the drive
alive with a game-winning
27-yard gain on fourth-and-9.
“It was special for us, obviously our first ACC game,” Daniels said. “Especially for us it’s history and I’m not going to lie, we’ve struggled the last two seasons and this is a big win for us and the players have learned to control their emotions. “The connection I had with Eric … I knew there was no one else to turn to.”
“You can ask, he gave us a chance to win,” Brown said. “Did he throw it to the other team? Yes. But that’s football. You can’t pass for 500 yards every game.”
The Cardinal defense held Syracuse leading rusher LeQuint Allen to 25 yards on eight carries. Syracuse managed just 26 yards on the ground. In their other win, the Cardinals held Cal Poly to 25 yards.
“The defense has been very aggressive the last two weeks,” Stanford coach Troy Taylor said.
GADSDEN SERIES
Syracuse tight end Auronde Gadston II, who entered the game with 13 catches, had just two catches.
Snack bar
It was a big win for the Cardinals, who dominated the Orange in the first half and showed they would be tough to handle.
#It was back to the drawing board for Syracuse, which was out of sorts for most of the game. It wasn’t a running play, and McCord suffered his first fumble of his short Syracuse career.
