Introduction: The Bachelor Finale
Bachelorette finale: Jen Tran and Devin
Strader break up, engagement ends in shocking twist
During the Sept. 3 season finale of
The Bachelorette , Jen Tran got engaged to
contestant Devin Strader after choosing runner-up
Marcus Sjoberg. However, Jen and
Dev’s engagement didn’t last long.
Jen Tran’s season of The
Bachelorette has temporarily ended.
After saying goodbye to runner-up
Marcus Sjoberg in the finals on September 3,
the medical student got
engaged to rival Devin Strader.
However, Bachelor Nation quickly learned
that Jen and Dev’s relationship status
changed after filming the finale earlier this
year. In fact, they officially broke up.
While Devin said she “can’t wait to get
down on one knee for him,” Jen said in
the finale, “I’m not going to let Devin propose
today. I’m going to ask Devin.
I just want to make a big gesture.
But before viewers could see the proposal,
Jen broke down in tears on “After the
Final Rose” and revealed the truth
about their relationship.
“It’s been a very difficult few months.
We ended our engagement
We ended our engagement in Hawaii and
were very happy. It was the happiest day of
my life,” he said. “When we left Hawaii,
everything was different. He felt like he was slipping out of every promise he made to me to go somewhere together and plan this future.”
As for Devin, she said in After the Final Rose, “I let you down. I can’t say anything else. But all I felt for you was ‘ta’.”
Jen was suspicious of his intentions and accused him of following other women on Instagram and going to the gym after their breakups.
“I think this is a little different than the conversation I wanted to have with you,” he said. “Am I not allowed to live?”
The main character of season 21 predicted a surprising twist earlier this summer.
“It’s definitely a shocking ending,” he told E. Francesca Amisel for June News. It was shocking for me too.
“You know, when I started my journey, I don’t know how I saw the end,” Jen admitted. “So I’m really excited for people to see it.”
In March, Jen made history by making her debut as the first Asian American cast member on The Bachelorette alongside Joey Grazidadi on The Bachelor season.
“What a dream,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. I can’t express how grateful I am and how surreal this all feels.
The 26-year-old continued: I thank my friends and family for supporting me in this way. “Without her I wouldn’t have the strength or courage to do this. And Asia’s first bachelor?! You have no idea how much this moment means to me.”
