Lee Daniels’ favorite film is The Exorcist,
but his mother was strongly opposed to
making a film about her obsession.

After his 2009 hit film “Precious,” the
Oscar-nominated director wanted to tackle
the horrifying true story of Latoya Ammons,

who claims children are victims of the devil.
“And my mom said, ‘You do your best, and that’s
what you see on the screen,'”

Daniels told USA TODAY.
While he’s moved on to other projects, from
“The Butler” to the TV drama “Empire,” turning

skeptical real-life witnesses into believers and
inspiring Daniels’ new film “A Stranger Than
Ammons’ Story,” he’s become a permanent

fixture has become a component that
cannot be shaken. . ” (now available on Netflix).
“I love giving a voice to the voiceless and

a face to those who are often invisible,” says
Daniels. “I grew up around a lot of white girls.
I wanted to do justice. A lot of African-Americans

have never seen this character on
screen and identify with it.”

Ebony eventually receives crucial help from
Reverend Bernice James (Anjano Ellis Taylor).
Rev. Bernice James is a deliverance minister,

not an exorcist who focuses on demonic possession,
but a member of the clergy who cleanses
evil spirits from people and places. Although

the delivery driver who worked with
Ammons was a man, “I really wanted to
work with Aoun Janio and knew there were

women doing it too,” Daniels recalls. He
said Ammons met various “healers,”
including a Catholic exorcist. (The exorcist scene

didn’t make it into the final cut of the film.)
Daniels admits he was initially skeptical of
Ammons’ story until he spoke to him on

the phone and verified the story himself.
Additionally, her mother told her about
“something she saw.” This is normal and

disgusting. The filmmaker, who went to
the set every day after reading articles and
books about the strange events during

the filming of “Poltergeist” and “The Exorcist,”
added that a courier was coming. “Not today, devil!”
