South Korean singer Taeil has left K-pop group NCT
after he was accused of unspecified sexual crimes,
his label announced Wednesday.

The 30-year-old’s agency SM Entertainment
released a statement regarding
The label did not reveal details of the crime but

said it was “aware of the seriousness of the situation”
and decided that Taeil, whose real name is Mon Teil,
could no longer “continue working as a team.”

NCT is the original location of the NCT universe,
SM Entertainment is handling the boy band’s
multi-episode project. Originally considered an

unlimited number of members, the NCT universe
also includes NCT 127, NCT Dream, and other divisions.
Taeil Tai was part of the NCT unit and the NCT 127 unit.

Earlier this year, SM Entertainment, along with
Super Junior’s Heechul, was forced to deal with another
large-scale scandal involving NCT members Johnny

and Haechan. The latter was accused on the Internet
of having sexual relations with bar hostesses.
SM Entertainment then denied these rumors.

SM Entertainment added that it is cooperating

fully with the police investigation.
“We will make further statements as the investigation

progresses,” said the statement, released in
Korean and translated by The Associated Press.
According to Korean media, the Seoul Bangbae

Police Station announced that Taeil was being
investigated in connection with a sex crime.
The BBC was unable to reach police for comment.

Taeil was a member of NCT (Neo Culture Technology),
a globally popular Korean boy band that debuted in 2016.
The group currently has over 20 members, divided into

several sub-units including NCT 127, NCT Dream and NCT Wish.
Tail has recently been active under the name NCT 127.
On August 15 last year, Taeil was in a car accident while riding a motorcycle in downtown Seoul, South Korea.
He temporarily paused his program to focus on treatment and recovery.
NCT is known for its experimental music of various genres and has gained international attention with several releases that charted on the Billboard charts.
K-POP comes from South Korea and is a fusion of pop, R&B and hip-hop.
It became a global phenomenon, especially after the success of boy band BTS in the late 2010s.
