Last season, Pawar played for Tamil Thalaivas,
his third consecutive season with the team,
and in the ninth season, Pawar and Thalaivas reached
the semi-finals but lost to Puneri Paltan.
After Ajinkya Ashok Pawar won the bidding war
against Bengaluru Bulls against U Mumba for Rs.
11,075 crore on Thursday, the first day of the Pro
Kabaddi League 2024 auction in Mumbai.
This was between the Bulls and the Jaipur Pink
Panthers – the team Ryder spent two seasons with – who initially tried to recruit Pawar to their teams. But U Mumba got into the contest, buckled down and stayed till the end.
The UP Yoddhas raised the bar for a while but soon dropped out of the race.
Pawar played for the Tamil Thalaivas last season, his third consecutive season with the team. Season 9 saw Pawar and Thalaivas reach the semi-finals where they lost to Puneri Paltan.
The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) season 11 player auction, which began in Mumbai on Thursday, saw an unprecedented number of players join the club at a cost of Rs 1 crore, marking a new milestone in the league’s history.
During the auction,
eight players Sachin Tanwar, Mohammadreza Shatloui Chian, Kuman Singh, Pawan Sehrawat, Bharat, Maninder Singh, Ajinkya Pawar and Sunil Kumar joined the rich group.
Sunil Kumar, bought by the Mumbai coach for Rs 1,015 crore, set a new record by becoming the most expensive Indian wicketkeeper in the history of the league. However, the maximum amount for a Tamil Thalaiva is Rs 2.15 billion.
On the first day of the auction, a total of 20 players were sold to the 12 participating franchises. Bengal Warriors, Telugu Titans and Gujarat Giants each used their Final Match (FBM) tickets to secure the services of Maninder Singh, Pawan Sehrwat and Sambir.
The Haryana Steelers have secured the services of Mohammad Reza Shadolvi Chiane for a whopping Rs 2.07 crore. According to the PKL publication, Chiyane became the first international player to fetch more than R2 billion in two consecutive player auctions.
