Introduction: Men’s 100m final
The men’s 100 meter event at the 2024 Paris Olympics will be held over two days from the preliminary round to the final.
The tournament began on Saturday with the preliminary
round and then the first round. The 100m semi-final and final
will take place on Sunday, early Monday Australian time.
The men’s 100m event at the 2024 Paris Olympics will be
available for live streaming and TV broadcast in Australia.
There will be three semi-final games on the second day. Nine sprinters take part in each race. Of these, the top two finishers in each round and the next two fastest qualify for the final of that day.
The field also includes Italy’s Lamont Marcel Jacobs, the reigning Olympic 100m champion. Other notable names include Noah Lyles, world number 1 (USA), 200m bronze medalist at Tokyo 2020 and world champion in both the 100m and 200m m.
Canadian Andre de Grasse (200 meters champion and bronze medalist at last year’s Tokyo Games) and Fred Curley (runner-up in the 100 meters at the Tokyo Games and 2022 World Champion) round out the squad.
Jamaican Keeshan Thompson holds
Jamaican Keeshan Thompson holds the world best time of 9.77 seconds, which he won at the Kingston Olympics. African record holder Ferdinand Omanyara from Kenya set the second fastest time of the season.
Usain Bolt holds the 100m Olympic record set in London 2012 (9.63 seconds) and the world record set at the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin (9.58 seconds).
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Australia had two competitors in the 100m: Rohan Browning and Joshua Azzopardi. Both participated in the 1st round and were eliminated.
Joshua Azzopardi ran 10.20 seconds in heat two to place fourth, while Rohan Browning finished sixth in heat six in 10.29 seconds.
Only the first three from each heat, and the next three with the fastest time, made it to the semi-finals.
