Jayden Daniels talks about the Commanders win over the Bengals.
Introduction: Jayden Daniels
CINCINNATI – Jaden Daniels and the Washington
Chiefs stole the show with a 38-33 victory over
Joe Barrow and the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football.
Daniels, the No. 2 pick in the 2024 draft, led the Chiefs to touc
hdowns on their first four drives, took a
28-13 lead midway through the third
quarter and kept the Bengals at bay from then on.
The former Heisman winner from LSU
showed off his tackling skills in the win.
He finished the night with two touchdowns
and one rushing, going 21 of 23 for 254
yards and running for 39 yards on 12 more carries.
Meanwhile, the Bengals’ offense struggled
Meanwhile, the Bengals’ offense struggled to find its rhythm for most of the game, but regained its momentum in the second half. With just over three minutes left in the third quarter, a fourth-down touchdown pass from Barrow to sophomore wide receiver Andre Yosivas brought Cincinnati within one point.
Washington responded with a field goal and with 9:42 left in the fourth quarter, Barrow scored his second touchdown of the night to make it 31:26. But Daniels had the final say, a 70-yard drive that lasted more than seven minutes, with a perfect 27-yard pass to Terry McLaurin down the sideline.
The Commanders improved to 2-1 on the season. The Bengals fell to 0 wins and 3 losses.
The Bengals are home favorites for the second time in three games against a team that had a difficult season in 2023. And once again Cincinnati pulled off a spectacular surprise.
The Commanders, led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, defeated the Bengals 38-33 and Cincinnati is off to an 0-3 start.
Daniels put in a great performance. Washington scored touchdowns on five of its first six drives, including a 27-yard pass from Daniels to wide receiver Terry McLaurin with 2 minutes, 10 seconds left in the game.
Before the season began, the Bengals were in talks about challenging Kansas City for the AFC Championship. But a third AFC Championship game between the two teams in four seasons appears to be a long way off at this point. According to ESPN research, only six teams in the Super Bowl era have made the playoffs after starting the season 0-3.
One worrying trend:
The team’s inability to convert the ball last week against the Kansas City Chiefs was problematic, as was the case with Washington. In the second quarter, Cincinnati had three drives inside Washington’s 30-yard line. The Bengals converted all three attempts into field goals. Kicker Evan McPherson made two of three attempts.
Biggest hole in the game plan: Daniels. The rookie quarterback seemed to have no problem running the offense in his third career start. Daniels completed 14 of his first 16 passes for 182 yards and a touchdown. He also fumbled for a touchdown, helping the Chiefs attack the Cincinnati defense. Washington scored on its first four drives.
