CNN– According to the Georgia Bureau
of Investigation, the father of the suspect
in the Appalachian High School shooting

that left four people dead has been arrested.
Colin Gray, 54, was charged with
four counts of first-degree murder, two

counts of second-degree murder
and eight counts of child abuse, the
GBI announced Thursday.
Her son Colt Gray, a 14-year-old

student, is accused of killing two
students and two teachers with
an AR-style rifle in Wednesday’s

shooting. According to officials, seven
people, six students and a teacher, as
well as two other students, were

injured in the shooting.

According to indictments obtained
by CNN, the teenager is charged with
four crimes. The GBI and Barrow

County Sheriff’s Office

County Sheriff’s Office said he is
expected to

be arraigned as an adult.
The charges

against Colin Gray stem

from the fact that he “knowingly
allowed” his son to have a gun, GBI
Director Chris Hosey said at a

news conference Thursday.

A source told CNN that the
AR-15-style rifle was purchased
as a Christmas gift from a local gun

store. The gun purchase came after
authorities first contacted Gray and
his family to investigate an online school

shooting threat, according to a timeline
provided to

authorities by the boy’s father.
The Jackson County, Georgia Sheriff’s

Office closed the investigation
because information about the
threat was not confirmed.

Wednesday’s shooting, just weeks
into the new school year, was the
45th school shooting this year, including

the shooting at Covenant School in
Nashville, where six people were killed
in March 2023. It was the deadliest
school shooting in the United

States since the massacre. .
