Other fixtures include Everton v Southampton
and Brighton and Hove Albion v Wolverhampton
Wanderers, both of whom defeated lower

league opposition in the second round.
In the Premier League, ten teams made it to the
third round of the competition, only Ipswich

Town did not make it to the next round.

New format for third round games

The new format of the UEFA Champions
League (UCL) and UEFA Europa League (UEL)
means a different style to the third round of the EFL Cup.

The matches will take place on September 16
and 23, the same weeks as the UCL and UEL.
There were no surprises on Tuesday night as Brighton,

Everton, Leicester, Fulham and Crystal Palace
easily defeated their lower league opponents.
It was another impressive win for Fabian Horzler’s

Brighton side, their third in as many games.
However, the win was a bit of a disappointment as one
of Brighton’s new signings, Matt O’Reilly, left injured after just six minutes.

In order to avoid conflicts between the dates of the matches, the club participating in the Champions League is not drawn with the club participating in the Europa League, so the third round matches can also be played in the second week.
